A lite of glass fell 12 stories from a building in London and shattered on the ground below.

Video of the incident was shared on Twitter by Colliers Wood councilor Stuart Neaverson. The video captured the lite of glass as it fell more than 100 feet and shattered on the ground. No one was injured in the accident.

Reports indicate that the window was struck by a bird days prior to the incident.

“This issue, being caused by a bird impact on the window, was reported last week on Thursday,” the Brittania Point building manager said in an email to residents. “Although maintenance scheduled to fix it on Monday, due to meteorological conditions, the window cracked before the arrival of maintenance. Fortunately, no one was harmed.”

The Merton Council, which is the local authority for the London Borough of Merton in Greater London, announced that an abseil inspection was conducted on the building, led by Criterion Capital. The safety testing on the glazing confirmed that further cracks were identified on another lite of glass. As of Friday, July 1, 2022, more testing was scheduled.

“Great to see so much action from the council on this already,” Neaverson posted on Twitter. “Of course, this is only the start. Once the immediate threats are taken care of, Criterion Capital needs to be ready to explain how they let this happen, and what they’ll be doing to improve their shoddy management.”
